Welcome Back!

As we start a new year, a new 9 weeks, and a new semester, I just wanted to say Welcome Back! It has been so nice being back this week.
We are half way through the school year, and the end is in sight. However, I want to remind everyone that we still have a lot of work in front of us. Remember to get those vocabulary notebooks done and turned in on time. And parents be on the look out for the new "Week in Review" documents that your student will be bring home. It will be a form filled out by them, highlighting what they have done during the week. It will also give you more information on missing assignments and behavior for the week.

Vocabulary words for the week of 12/05 to 12/09

This weeks root word is miss, mit which means send. Our vocabulary words for this week are admit, dismiss, emit, intermission, missile, mission, omit, remit, submit, transmit. (verb) emit - to send out or give off (such as an odor).

The Christmas ham emitted such a wonderful smell, my stomach growled and grumbled until mom said it was time to eat.

Reading Logs

This is the 3rd week that I have had reading logs in place for homework. I just want to say thank you to all my parents out there for helping me out. I know sometimes it is tough to find 30 minutes in our day, especially the end of our day, to find time to sit our kids down and make them read. I appreciate each and every one of you taking the time to do this. One of the best ways to make our kids better readers is to make them read more! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your help and support!

Vocabulary Words for week 11/28 - 12/02

This weeks root word is port, which means carry. Words for this week are deport, export, import, portable, portage, porter, portfolio, report, support, and transport. These words, for the most part, are words that are familiar to us. On Monday, in class, the students and I went over the definitions and parts of speech for: portage, porter, and portfolio.

Vocabulary Words for Nov. 7th - Nov. 10th

This weeks root word is ject which means to throw. Our vocabulary words are: dejected, eject, injection, interjection, jettison, projectile, projector, reject, subject, trajectory

Starting this week I will require that students write a story using all 10 of their vocabulary words when they do not make a passing grade on the previous weeks vocabulary test. I'm trying to get the kids to take more initiative in studying. So far based on the amount of papers that have been turned into me, this reward/consequence might work :).
