Hey parents,
I know it has been a while, and for that I do apologize. I just wanted to drop in and give a quick update. The kids are doing awesome! Today in reading we started our reading rotations with informational text being the highlight. In math we continued on our factor journey by learning about common factors. Some of the kids are forgetting their multiplication facts. Knowing those will make math SO much easier! So please encourage them to study!!!! And in social studies we are learning about our fight for freedom from the British! We are discussing and learning  A LOT!

Please continue to encourage your child. Historically this time of year is difficult with a long break on the horizon it makes working hard a little more difficult. But we only have a few weeks left in the 9 weeks. Any missing work should be turned in, a late grade is better than a zero! Parents check the grade book in Math we have two more big grades (summatives) and three more smaller grades (formatives). In reading and social studies we only have a few more grades to go!

Take care and as always please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns! autumn.schoenbeck@killeenisd.org

P.S. We just got a new website that is amazing for math. www.thinkthroughmath.com and the kids have their log in! This tool is math questions that are geared to individual levels. So it's a great practice for the kids!

All RIGHT!!! It's that time again....first of the year book order is in and man have I got some great new books to share! But before they can make it to our library, I have to read them first! So my question to you guys is, which one should I read first?

The False Prince is said to be "a heart racing tale taut with danger and bold adventure, lies, and deadly truths that will have readers clinging to the edge of their seats."

The Maze Runner is about a boy who cant remember anything about himself. He wakes up and finds himself in a maze, only knowing his first name. He finds himself surrounded by other kids who are trapped in the maze as well. Upon the arrival of the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade (the maze) they start the adventure of trying to solve what looks more and more like an unsolvable maze. Will he find his way home? Will he remember who he is?

So cast your vote for which of these you want me to read first!!! Remember the faster I read it...the quicker you can check it out!!!!
Progress reports came out today! Be sure to look them over, sign and send them back.

Great things are happening, we are brushing up on our rounding skills in math. As well as practicing adding and subtracting decimals!

In reading we are working on our reader's inner voice, vocabulary, and figurative language!!! Ask your kids about the finger snaps!

And last but certainly not least in Social Studies it's Freedom week! We've been learning about the Declaration of Independence!!! With a whole lot more fun, freedom stuff coming up!!!
Have a great night! And I'll see all my bright, shiny faces tomorrow!

Homemade Bread!

We had a great presentation by the King Arthur Flour Co. today! Kids were encouraged to explore and learn while doing something that would benefit so many. Students have been given the opportunity to make a loaf for their family as well as a family in need. Just bring it to school so we can get it into the hands of those who are in need. What an awesome opportunity to give back! The kids were sent home with flour, yeast and a measuring tool.Ask your child about it! And have a wonderful time making memories as well as bread together!

Welcome Back!

As we start a new year, a new 9 weeks, and a new semester, I just wanted to say Welcome Back! It has been so nice being back this week.
We are half way through the school year, and the end is in sight. However, I want to remind everyone that we still have a lot of work in front of us. Remember to get those vocabulary notebooks done and turned in on time. And parents be on the look out for the new "Week in Review" documents that your student will be bring home. It will be a form filled out by them, highlighting what they have done during the week. It will also give you more information on missing assignments and behavior for the week.
As always, thank you so much for the support, and students thank you for dedication to learning :)
