Reading Logs
This is the 3rd week that I have had reading logs in place for homework. I just want to say thank you to all my parents out there for helping me out. I know sometimes it is tough to find 30 minutes in our day, especially the end of our day, to find time to sit our kids down and make them read. I appreciate each and every one of you taking the time to do this. One of the best ways to make our kids better readers is to make them read more! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your help and support!

This weeks root word is ject which means to throw. Our vocabulary words are: dejected, eject, injection, interjection, jettison, projectile, projector, reject, subject, trajectory
Starting this week I will require that students write a story using all 10 of their vocabulary words when they do not make a passing grade on the previous weeks vocabulary test. I'm trying to get the kids to take more initiative in studying. So far based on the amount of papers that have been turned into me, this reward/consequence might work :).

Scholastic website
Interested in helping us get new books for our classroom library? Or want some help picking out the perfect book for your student? Then the scholastic website is the perfect place to go. Use our activation code of HHYL3 and we earn points to use for our classroom library with every order made. The book wizard tool helps you find new and exciting books that will engage your student. And it also has a feature that gives you a list of books that are "like" books that your student has read already. Hope this helps you find books that your child might enjoy to help us foster that love of reading!

Vocabulary Note Cards
Okay, so I have made vocabulary flash cards for Units 1 -5 but it is not cost effective for me to try and make copies for everyone. So the flash cards are in a PDF file and if anyone would like a copy of that file all you have to do is email me and I will send it to you!! Makes for quick and easy practicing.
Also, just as a reminder we will not have any new vocabulary words next week because on 10/7 we are having our BIG vocabulary review over Units 1 -5. Hope everyone is having a great week! It's almost Friday so hang in there!!!!

Here is a visual of what is expected for your vocabulary notebooks:
As you can see part of speech in parenthesis, the vocabulary word, the definition, and a sentence that you came up with. Your vocabulary should follow the format that we discussed in class, we also placed a reminder template at the beginning of our vocabulary notebook. Hope this helps you remember what is required for credit. ;)

Vocabulary Notebooks
It seems as though some of us are having trouble with getting our weekly vocabulary done and turned in on time. Vocabulary words are given to on the Friday before they are due...and you are given a week to turn them in. This is the only homework that is assigned in this class, and it IS worth a grade. We really need to buckle down and work on our time management skills.
